NextGen is an Adelaide ice hockey academy for kids who are brand new to the game. Come and try, learn to play, sharpen your skating — then have heaps of fun in our 3-on-3 summer league, where the big kids mentor the little ones.
Every NextGen player starts here, before the Jr Hockey Academy. It’s a focused, coach-led hour for kids who can already skate on their own but are new to hockey — they meet the coaches, pick up a stick and discover how much fun the game is.
Before you book: your child needs to skate on their own, with no skating aids. Still finding their feet? Practise at public skating first, then come and try.
Pick a Tuesday or Saturday and tell us a little about your child’s skating.
Hire skates at the counter (or bring your own) and we’ll kit your child out from our loan gear. Warm, comfy layers — no jeans.
An hour of games with our coaches in a small group. Afterwards, we’ll talk you through their next step: the Jr Hockey Academy.
Try before you buy. No need to invest in a kit or stick on day one. Once your child’s hooked, we recommend buying their own skates — a pair that fits properly makes learning a whole lot easier.
Games over drills, high-fives over pressure. If they’re smiling, they’re learning — and they’ll want to come back next week.
Kids move through the pathway alongside the same group of friends, so every session on the ice feels like home.
Small groups, coaches on the ice with every group, full protective gear, and non-contact hockey for all under-14s.
Five stages, one academy. Kids step up when they’re ready — not when their birthday says so — and every stage has a clear “ready when”, so you always know what’s next.
Coach-led first sessions for kids who can skate on their own.
Stick, puck and first passes in small, fast games.
Hockey skating: edges, crossovers, stops and flow.
Faster skating, sharper skills, positions and game sense.
3-on-3 mini games — younger and older kids on one team.
Want to stand in the crease? Goalie Academy runs alongside the Advanced Academy on Thursdays.
After their Come & Try, tell us where your child’s at and we’ll show you where they slot in. Every program runs in small groups with coaches on the ice.
Done a Come & Try, or already have some hockey under their belt? Tell us about your child and a coach will get back to you about the right program, start dates and costs.
Brand new to hockey? Book a Come & Try first — it’s where every NextGen player starts.
